The Big Bopper Rises (Seattle BOP Mysteries Book 2)

The Big Bopper Rises (Seattle BOP Mysteries Book 2) is the continuation of the story of an insurance investigator named Chief Armstrong. If you have not read the first in the series, you should definitely start there first. Otherwise there is not much effort at character development or explaining any of the backstory to this novel.
In this second book of the series, Chief Armstrong takes on an alias to infiltrate a college to determine if a denied insurance claim was really a suicide or if something more nefarious was happening at this school and their cross-town rival.
At times it felt as though you were being told bits and pieces of a story with not much holding these random anecdotes together. While this is expected of a mystery novel at times it became distracting to me and made it a more difficult read than it could have been.
The length and the novel cover may make it look like this might be a book for children but it definitely is not. It is an interesting concept with a lot of potential. Despite some of the shortcomings of this book, I found it intriguing and it kept me reading to the end.
If you liked the first book in the series, pick this one up. If you want to pick up a new mystery series, you could do much worse than pick up this book. Overall a decent novel with, at times, an engrossing story that includes plenty of romance, fighting, social engineering, and hacking.
