Horrors of the Mind: A Paranormal Experience

Horrors of the Mind is really an anthology of three short stories that are loosely connected in such a way that they almost feel like a trilogy. Or at least the beginnings of a multiverse reminiscent of the one created by Stephen King. Albeit one centered around Massachussetts rather than Maine.
The three stories are titled The Dream, The Haunting of Hockomock Swamp, and Immolation. Each is haunting in a unique way and definitely strike similar notes as many Stephen King novels. Being a huge Stephen King fan, these stories were tailor-made to be enjoyable by anyone who enjoys his work.
The Dream involves a young girl plagued by mysterious nightmares tied to the holocaust. It is a horror story that, in the end, brings a family closer together. It is definitely not your usual horror/paranormal novel and is great because of it’s unique angle.
Like The Dream, The Haunting of Hockomock Swamp is historical fiction in a horror story wrapping. It is a fascinating read with unusual twists and turns. Ms. Kline also manages weave an intriguing and well-written romance storyline into this one.
Finally, Immolation is the closest of the three stories to a traditional Stephen King novel. In fact the protagonist of the story has the King surname. If you enjoyed Cujo or Pet Sematary then you will definitely enjoy this one.
All in all, these are thoroughly interesting reads that made me want to read more of her work. I would definitely highly recommend this one if you enjoy horror and/or paranormal stories.
