Death at the Seaside (Ghostly Shadows Book 1)

Death at the Seaside is a great story about a man named Larry Castle with a checkered past trying to make a life for himself shortly after WWII. He is dating a married actress and taking a vacation from his life as a shady businessman.
He meets up with the actress at their vacation spot and things begin to fall apart from there. His past quickly catches up with him as he serendipitously eats dinner with a family with a son that seems to know more about Mr. Castle’s past than is good for his health.
Things quickly spiral out of control from that point. Each move he makes seems to make things worse. It is a compelling read with interesting, fleshed-out characters. The supernatural aspects of the story do not detract from its core elements and themes and doesn’t veer into horror territory.
Overall, this was a great, fun read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys character studies with a pinch of the supernatural. It is well-written and interesting. The novella is the perfect length to pull you into the story without having time for the plot to plod along.
There are a lot of supernatural books out there that get too caught up in the supernatural to really give you an interesting plot or interesting characters. I found the balance in this book to make for a great read. I look forward to reading more of Mr. Jameson’s work in the rest of this series.
I received a free, no-strings-attached, advanced reader’s copy of this book.
