The Great Babe Bambina: Episode I: Brings the Pain Yet Heals the Maimed

The Great Babe Bambina is a great children’s/young-adult short story. A group of 10 year old boys and girls, calling themselves the Infinity Pack, meet every Friday in the park to pretend to be a group superheroes. A new member of the crew is a bit of a mystery to the leader of the gang, Danny Lewis. Danny sets out to learn more about her and the engrossing adventure begins from there.
The story, while somewhat derivative, is just unique and fun enough that you don’t really notice. The friendships in the group, the humor sprinkled throughout the danger and adventure, and the fun storytelling make this a great read.
I had never read any of Mr. Borosky’s work but am certainly interested in reading his other novel The World of Ato now. I love being introduced to new authors that can weave engrossing stories with heart and with humor. This story certainly hit all the right notes for me for a great children’s story. While there is danger, it is rather mild and shouldn’t be too scary for children to read on their own.
If you are looking for a good supernatural adventure story for a kid, or for yourself, you could certainly do worse than to pick this one up. It is a very quick read and could easily appeal to kids who normally do not like to read. It’s a fun story that is a good reminder of how fun and carefree childhood play can be as well as how difficult it can be to navigate the world as a child.
