I enjoyed the first book so much that I purchased this second book before I finished reading The Mist Rises Over Notchey Creek (Book #1 in the Harley Henrickson mystery series). I am not at all disappointed that I did. I enjoyed the second one as much, if not more, than I did the first one.

The writing is just as beautiful as the first book’s and the characters are even more fleshed out. The setting, which serves as much of a character as the characters themselves, is again evident in this book. You can tell Ms. Andrews loves this place she has created based, presumably, on where she grew up in East Tennessee.

This book throws you into another mystery that will keep you guessing. The first book felt like it leaned into mystery tropes a little hard at times and became either too predictable or too far out of left-field. This second novel does not suffer from those same problems. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and was not distracted by any strange, out-of-character, actions or consequences.

If you read and enjoyed the first book, definitely pick this one up. It continues the adventures and life of Harley Henrickson and is a stronger story. The writing really is beautiful and fun to read.

If you haven’t read the first one, you can pick this one up without knowing the background provided in the first book. However, I would suggest getting the first one anyway because it will make the second one even more enjoyable.
