The Kings Death

The Kings Death is the second in a series of what is often referred to as epic or high fantasy (think Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones or The Wheel of Time). If you enjoy epic fantasies, then this book will hit all the right notes and keep you engaged.
The author does a superb job of world building that keeps you engaged without losing you in the weeds of a world full of a deep and long history, vibrancy, life, and mystery. While not strictly necessary, it would probably be best to start with the first book in the series before picking this one up. However, it is perfectly suitable to read as a stand-alone if you wish. However, some of the nuance may be missed without the knowledge from the first novel.
The characters are well-developed and the relationships believable and engaging. The plots moves along at a perfect pace and the combination of plot, characters, and setting will bring the novel to life in a way that very few novels are able to accomplish. The writing is great and full of logical, but unexpected, twists and turns.
Overall, fantasy is my favorite genre to read. I love finding series to dig into and this is one that I really enjoyed. It is a lot of fun with all the exciting characteristics you would hope to find in the best fantasy novels. Pick this one up and I don’t think it will be possible for you to be disappointed.
