The Warring States Conundrum (The Winston Sage Trilogy Book 1)

The Warring States Conundrum is an unusual and fun mystery. I loved the the main character Winston Sage (Win). A retired doctor and medical detective turned un-retired armchair detective searching for a missing person. The plot thickens from there and keeps a fast pace.
The plot is unique and the setting adds an unique flavor to the whole feel of the novel. The characters are fleshed out, real characters and not cardboard cutouts or oversimplified cliches. This novel, full of personality and interesting, human characteristics will ensure you quickly fall into the rhythm of the storytelling and enjoy the book.
I found the intersection of Asian art history, mystery, and top secret nuclear scientists to be refreshing and interesting. It is hard to believe that this is a debut novel. I love discovering new or lesser-known authors that can write this well. This debut novel is a prime example of why I love reading books. You never know what you’re going to get and it is magical when you get something like this story.
The mystery is not predictable and also not out-of-the-blue solved through some deus ex machina twist. Those, to me, are the best kinds of mysteries. The ones that keep you on your toes, grab and hold your attention, give you interesting avenues to think about and explore, and offer something fun in the resolution of the plot.
Overall, if you enjoy mysteries, you will love this book. Go pick it up!
