Betrayal in Black (A Zachary Blake Legal Thriller Book 4)

Betrayal in Black is the fun and exciting continuation of the Zachary Blake series (of which I’ve reviewed the three previous entries in the series). This book continues the character development and adventures of Zachary Blake. While a continuation of the ongoing series, it serves just as well as a stand-alone novel. Obviously, reading the three other books will make this one far more interesting and get you invested in the story more quickly than picking it up fresh but does not in any way take away from the enjoyment if you have not read the others.
The book kicks off with a white police officer pulls over a black man with a legal firearm. The transaction is caught on video and the man is shot and killed by the officer.
Obviously, this story is pulled straight from the headlines (if not directly, it certainly is timely and provides interesting insight and commentary on the current state of policing in the United States).
Zachary Blake is quickly consulted and pulled into the case. Navigating social justice and legal justice is a tricky thing that Zach has to pull off in addition to juggling the rest of his often chaotic life.
I love the whole series and this book adds to the already great existing entries. The story is fast-paced and the plot unpredictable but easy enough to follow and enjoy. Overall, a great legal thriller and a book I would recommend to anyone who has enjoyed the previous books or think they might enjoy a new legal thriller or social justice commentary skillfully woven into the story and not used as a tool to beat the reader over the head.
